Historien bakom låten:
Bröderna Gibb skrev ofta låtar som kunde anpassas till artisten. ”Island in the Sun” skrevs för Marvin Gay i tänkt R&B utförande. Men av någon anledning hamnade den på låtlistan för Kenny Rogers album. Anpassning till Kenny och Dolly skedde främst i Gibbs studio i Miami och inspelningen tros ha avslutats i Los Angeles.

Man brukar säga att countrylåtar inte har någon tonartshöjning men här finns.
Covers och andra versioner
Bee Gees har varit återhållsamma om vem som fått spela in deras låtar men det finns några andra versioner som har något ändrad /anpassad text.
- BeeGees själva hade med låten på deras ’Greatest Hits: The Record’ (2001)
- De danska sångarna Peter Thorup och Anne-Grete Rendtorff gjorde 1984 en dansk version, ”Skibe uden sejl” som var med i TV-serien ’Måske i morgen’
- Ruth Jones och Rob Brydon med Tom Jones och Robin Gibb, gjorde en komisk version för välgörenhet (Comic Relif som sändes på BBC 2009) låten hette då ”(Barry) Islands in the Stream” Videon spelades in bland annat på Barry Island i Wales och i Las Vegas. Låten toppade Top40 i UK vilket gjorde Tom Jones (68 år) till den äldsta artisten som toppat listan, I år har dock den 99-årige Captain Tom Moore slagit rekordet i och med medverkan i ”You Never Walk Alone” för insamling till hantering av Corona pandemin. )
